The Red River Basin of Vietnam is one of the more densely populated areas in Asia with serious flood and drought problems. The water stress is likely to increase in future due to higher water demands from agriculture, industy and the domestic sector. This study is a pilot project within the 2^nd Red River Basin Sector Project, to test the added value of remote sensing techniques on (1) quantifying drought and (2) determining water productivity of rice systems.
