Significant water withdrawal from the two inflowing rivers Syr Darya and Amu Darya has resulted in the dramatic decline of level, area and volume of the Aral Sea. To stop desertification in the North Aral Sea region, WaterWatch was contracted to analyse the water conditions of irrigated rice with advanced remote sensing technologies.
