The Nilo Coelho scheme with perennial fruit irrigation is located in the state of Pernambuco of Brazil. Currently the scheme only uses 1% of the total river flow, which means there is ample room for expanding irrigated agriculture. The purpose of the project was to demonstrate how irrigation management could be improved using low-cost and low resolution satellite measurements complemented with field data on water flows and rainfall.
