After graduating from Larenstein International College for Land and Water Management (Velp, the Netherlands), Wim (1960) worked as a junior/senior hydrologist at the Department of Water Management in Arid Zones of the DLO - Staring Centre in Wageningen (currently Alterra) for 10 years. Wim obtained his Ph.D. related to the development of the SEBAL model from Wageningen University in 1995 . Thereafter, from 1997 to 2000, he was a Visiting Scientist and Research Fellow of the CGIAR International Water Management Institute (IWMI) in Colombo.
With WaterWatch (2001), Wim became independent, and was able to develop a series of water management information products based on satellite measurements. Research efforts continued simultaneously, and this has recently (March 2007) been recognized by the Technical University of Delft by offering Wim a parttime professorship in Water Resources Management and Remote Sensing.
