Ernesto (1976) obtained a master degree in Soil and Water (2002) and a second master degree in Geoinformation Science (2006) both from Wageningen University. He worked in Burkina Faso with soil degradation models for the Sahelian zone and then with the Colombian Sugarcane Research Center (CENICANA) on the use of satellite images to estimate biophysical variables for sugarcane. Furthermore he worked at the National University of Colombia with projects on irrigation and drainage, remote sensing and geoinformation science. At Waterwatch he started as a visiting researcher for his PhD thesis on remote sensing methods to study the impact of sugarcane cultivation on water resources. Since April 2011 Ernesto combines his PhD research with a position at WaterWatch.
