Ir. Annemarie Klaasse (1977) is a remote sensing expert interested in projects addressing the allocation and management of water resources among competing water sectors and of land uses in river basins. At WaterWatch she is involved in several projects on remote sensing, water consumption, irrigation performance, and flood monitoring with a special focus on the African region. Before joining WaterWatch in 2005, she worked on improving wetlands monitoring using earth observation in the GLOBWETLAND ESA-project. As a GIS expert she modeled soil losses and compared land suitability with crop distribution at the University of Lleida (Spain). At the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania (MAICh) in Greece she worked as a remote sensing expert in two EU projects related to the environmental impact of forest fires. Annemarie holds a MSc degree in Soil and Water Conservation & Remote Sensing of Wageningen University.
